Rwanda has started delivering e-Apostille

Kigali, Rwanda, 05 June 2024 - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda (MINAFFET) in partnership with Irembo is pleased to announce that starting June 5, 2024, Rwanda has started issuing and accepting Apostilles from other member countries of the Apostille Convention of October 5, 1961.

This development will significantly benefit Rwandans by making the legalization process for public documents faster, simpler, and digitized through the use of electronic Apostilles (e-Apostilles). Rwandan documents intended for use abroad will be processed digitally and accessible through the Irembo-government platform https://irembo.gov.rw. Foreign documents apostilled abroad will be directly usable in Rwanda.

Rwanda will be the first country to implement e-Apostilles from the onset of its accession to the Convention. This initiative aligns with Rwanda's efforts to deliver digital and citizen-centered public services.

In addition to this, MINAFFET and Irembo have recently introduced new services processed on the IremboGov platform.

  1. Legalization of public documents from Rwanda to be used abroad (e-Apostilles)
  2. Legalization of public documents from abroad to be used in Rwanda
  3. Legalization of Power of Attorney for transfer of property
  4. Facilitation for issuance of diplomatic plate numbers
  5. Issuance of recommendation letters to Rwandan living abroad for land-related services
  6. Issuance of Note-Verbale to Rwandan officials traveling on official missions
