REMARKS BY THE HONORABLE MINISTER OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS IN CHARGE OF REGIONAL COOPERATION ON THE OCCASION OF THE 62nd INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY OF THE REPUBLIC OF UGANDA

Kigali, 9 October 2024

It is both a great honor and a pleasure to join you this evening on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Rwanda. First and foremost, I would like to extend my warm wishes to all Ugandans as we mark the 62nd Independence Day Anniversary.

Today, we not only commemorate Uganda’s remarkable journey toward self-determination but also congratulate the Government of the Republic of Uganda for the spirit of resilience, unity and unwavering commitment to Pan-Africanism, which has shaped Uganda into the vibrant country we know today.

I wish to take this opportunity to highlight the multiple bonds that unite our two nations and reflect on our shared history and culture. Indeed, our bonds run deep, extending beyond a common border. We share values rooted in mutual respect, a common vision of peace, prosperity, and regional integration.

Allow me reaffirm Rwanda’s commitment to further strengthening our bilateral engagements, and express our eagerness to explore new areas of cooperation for the mutual benefit of our two Peoples. I am glad to note that significant achievements have been made in vital areas of cooperation over the last few years, including defense, police and prison services, cyber security, trade, diplomatic consultations, migration, justice, constitutionalism, and mutual legal assistance.

These accomplishments serve further to solidify our partnership, ensuring a safe, prosperous, and harmonious future for both our nations.  I commend the spirit of friendship and brotherhood that characterizes the relationship between Rwanda and Uganda, and call on us all to continue our collective efforts to overcome challenges and build a future filled with opportunities and growth.

As I conclude, allow me to extend once again my best wishes for good health, success, and prosperity to the entire nation of Uganda. May our friendship continue to grow and flourish, and may we work hand-in-hand toward a brighter future for our people.

Now, may I please request you to raise your glasses as we toast to His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the People, and the Government of the Republic of Uganda!

Cheers!

Thank you so much for your kind attention!

Mwebale Nyo!
